Join us on Wednesday, August 19 at 6:30 pm for our Public Domain Theatre program! This month’s free movie is the influential 1950 film Rashomon.
Directed by Akira Kurosawa, Rashomon tells the story of a violent crime recounted through multiple, conflicting perspectives—challenging the very idea of objective truth. With its striking cinematography, innovative narrative structure, and powerful performances by Toshiro Mifune and Machiko Kyō, the film revolutionized storytelling in cinema and introduced Japanese film to global audiences.
💡 Fun fact: The film’s narrative technique was so groundbreaking that the term “Rashomon effect” is now used to describe situations where the same event is interpreted differently by those involved.
This event is free, and light concessions will be available for purchase during the show. Please stick around after the movie for a post-film discussion with host Dennis Everette.
