This hands-on workshop invites you to explore portrait painting through the lens of Amanda Gorman—poet, visionary, and voice of a generation. Together, we’ll capture the power, grace, and imagination she represents, learning how to turn inspiration into art.Guided by Rob Carlos, an accomplished fantasy artist known for his work with The Wheel of Time and murals across the Pacific Northwest, you’ll learn to blend technique with storytelling—creating portraits that speak from the soul.
No experience needed—just your curiosity and creativity. Come paint with us as we honor art as activism, portraiture as poetry, and creativity as collective healing. 🌻🎨
About the Facilitator
Rob Carlos began his art career as a digital graphic designer in Florida, creating illustrations for the Dungeons & Dragons campaigns he ran with friends and contributing to the Robert Jordan Wheel of Time trading card game. Since moving to the Seattle/Tacoma area in 2001, Rob has become a celebrated figure in the fantasy art world. His work has been featured at Norwescon and other conventions across the U.S. and abroad, including art shows in Helsinki and Dublin.
Over the years, Rob has illustrated for independent writers and musicians, designed pewter dragons and ceramic tiles, and created murals throughout Washington and Oregon. During the pandemic, he expanded into digital sculpting for tabletop gaming miniatures, further deepening his creative repertoire. Most recently, Rob was honored as the Artist Guest of Honor at Norwescon, a full-circle moment in his artistic journey.
Rob’s art blends imagination, storytelling, and technical mastery—making him the perfect guide for those stepping into the world of portrait painting.
