Free Plant Friday! - Native Plant Nursery Volunteering

A hands-on way to help grow native plants for restoration projects (maybe a little weeding & cleaning) while taking a few home for yourself!
About this Event

Join us for a short, 3-hour focus on native plant volunteer work where you'll learn a little and help a lot! Activities will change every week and depend on the season, but may include:

- Preparing and sticking plant cuttings

- Transplanting young rooted cuttings into containers

- Learning, mixing and applying various soil mixes and fertilizers

- Cleaning recent conservation seed collections

- Counting and Treating/ Preparing Seed for sowing

- Learning to transplant more 'delicate' native plant seedlings

DETAILS:

Volunteer hours begin at 9 am and go through 12 pm. Arrive anytime between 9 am and 10 am for the best experience.

This volunteer work will take place outdoors at the Rancho Sierra Vista nursery. Much of the work can take place under shade, but volunteers should be prepared to stand for at least 2 hours and be exposed to the cold and sun for various lengths of time. Please wear hiking or outdoor working attire, bring water/reusable water bottle, sunscreen, and a sun hat. Attendees under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. (Questions? Email: [email protected])

1. Park in the final, lower, bottom visitor parking lot: 'Rancho Sierra Vista/ Satwiwa Main Parking Lot'

2. Walk past the left side of the bathrooms, past the Eucalyptus grove.

3. Walk into and past the horse stable area, and into Rancho Sierra Vista Nursery.

From the Ventura Fwy (101) to Lynn Rd exit. South on Lynn Rd 5.25 miles to Via Goleta. Park entrance is on the left.
