One of the truly great sci/fi/horror movies of all time with a story as old as mankind. We seem to always strive for that which is often out of reach. This is part of human nature, as is the fallen nature of man which often gives rise to unintended consequences. Often these unintended consequences cannot be foreseen and themselves have unintended consequences. The story as to how this original novel was written in 1818 by Mary Shelley is almost as fascinating as the movie it spawned. Originally entitled "The modern Promethius" she wrote this story by way of a challenge on an 1816 holiday as to who would write the best "Ghost story" in a group that included Lord Byron, her future husband, Byron Shelley, and of course Mary herself. Frankenstein was the result by Shelley who won the competition. There have been many screen versions of Frankenstein, but none truly capture the gothic scenes as well as this original 1931 version
