Why We Are Celebrating (The History of Juneteenth):
On June 19, 1865—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed—Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, with General Orders No. 3. This order officially informed the last remaining enslaved Black Americans that they were free. While the legal trials, enforcement, and true liberation took time to ripple across the region, "Juneteenth" (combining June and nineteenth) marks the historic moment freedom finally reached the furthest corners of the continent.

Today, we celebrate it as a second Independence Day, a reminder of resilience, the triumphs of liberty, and the ongoing journey toward community solidarity and equality.
While the event officially kicks off at 11:00 AM, we invite everyone to rally together, pack the park, and connect starting for our main community hangout around 1:00 PM.
Pack your blankets, invite your friends, and let's celebrate together!
