Demonstration of fiber arts provided by Cherry Street Pier Studio 16 third year resident artist Bonnie MacAllister, M.Ed. She has studied textiles while on Fulbright-Hays to Ethiopia and on residence in Iceland and Lyon, France.
MacAllister has exhibited her embroidered portraits of women leaders at the Yellowstone Art Museum, New York Public Library, McLean Project for the Arts, Trenton City Ellarsie Museum, and Pyramid Atlantic Art Center. The work has been featured in the Huffimgton Post, WHYY, and Fox 29.
Studio 16 at Cherry Street Pier houses MacAllister’s over fifty fiber works made with fleece and materials collected while traveling to the Swedish archipelago, Norwegian fjords, Alsace-Lorraine, the Pacific Northwest, and most recently the Southwest from Navajo-Churro sheep. Each embroidery depicts a moment chronicled from travel or a portrait of heroines in modern time. She uses felting and punch needle tufting to create 3D textures.
