About the film:
On the last morning of a post-pandemic ski weekend reunion, a group of college friends decide to stay one more day. They shouldn't. Over the next twenty-four hours, a surprise engagement exposes hidden desires, a long-distance love reaches a breaking point, and one friend's crisis becomes impossible to ignore. Firelight is a portrait of a generation navigating the moment you realize the life you're living and the life you imagined have become two different things.
Firelight is the independent, debut feature film from writer/director/producer, Nathan Breton, and producer, Delacey Skinner, shot primarily on location in the Western Catskills in New York. The film was developed in a new, Brooklyn-based filmmaking collective built around The Technique, a meaning- and feeling-centered framework for storytelling, created by Joan Scheckel and used in such films as Little Miss Sunshine and Whale Rider, as well as TV hit Transparent.
Shooting for Firelight took place in 2023 at a private cabin in East Branch; a studio set built at Foothills Performing Arts Center in Oneonta; A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta; and Plattekill Mountain in Roxbury, and in 2024, at the Andes Hotel in Andes. Additional shooting took place in Central Park in New York City and at Bear Creek Mountain Resort in Macungie, Pennsylvania.
This film is recommended for ages 16+ due to language.
