Those that have ever attended a Yancy Street Comics Free Comic Book Day event know how crazy it is and the amount of people that show up, but this year it is going to be even better! Our sister store Six Strings and Superheroes will be opening in April and we have decided to have FCBD this year at our new property! The city of New Port Richey will be providing police and barricades will be set up to help handle the large amounts of people which this year we believe will be even more than normal!
FCBD will be at 5645 Main Street downtown New Port Richey near Sims Park. Our Port Richey mall location is huge and purposely laid out for these kinds of events, but this year we wanted to bring people downtown to see the new store that we have worked all year restoring and to have the city involved with FCBD as well. It is going to be a lot of work, but we are looking forward to it! Please read until the end to see all of the awesome things that will be happening on Saturday May the 4th!
1. As always we will be giving away THOUSANDS of comic books published by Marvel, DC, Image, IDW, and other comic book companies printed exclusively for this event. This is the most comics that we have ever carried for a FCBD and are hoping to meet the demand.
2. Local businesses in the downtown New Port Richey area will be graciously donating gift certificates/gift cards to us for Free Comic Book Day and we will be randomly putting them into FCBD bags, so make sure to check your bag of comics before you leave to see if you are one of the lucky ones that got something cool from our new neighbors!
3. May the 4th is also Star Wars day and yes there is a Star Wars comic available for Free Comic Book Day!! If you show up dressed as a Star Wars character you will be given a ticket for a chance to win some cool Star Wars merchandise!
4. If you are a cosplayer, but want to show up as a Superhero or something other than Star Wars that's great too! You will receive a different ticket for a separate drawing for other prizes that we will have available.
5. Parking is located behind our building in the city parking lot and there is NO fee to park. Also there is parking as you turn onto Main Street two blocks away from the store with shuttles that will get you here and back within minutes.
6. We are still working on the outside front of the building (Something very cool in the works and more on that later) and hoping to be finished by May the 4th.
7. Three weeks after FCBD (24th and 25th) we will be showing Superman: The Movie with Christopher Reeve at the Historic Richey Suncoast Theatre around the corner here in downtown NPR! A lot of kids have not seen the awesomeness of Reeve as Superman especially in a theatre, so we really wanted to do this and show why this movie is to this day the Superman that all actors wearing the cape must live up to. Tickets will be available here May the 4th as well. There is a Friday night, a Saturday afternoon, and Saturday evening showing and will sell out fast, so please buy a ticket and share some magic with us and help support this almost 100 year old theatre!
8. Professional comic book artists will be on hand for FCBD. We will only have a few attending this year due to space and the larger amount of people that we will be taking care of, but as always we have signings all year long and some big surprises to announce later on this year. Artists attending FCBD will be posted shortly.
9. Customer have been asking how far away is Six Strings & Superheroes from Yancy Street Comics and wanted to mention that both stores are close to each other and only four lights south on US 19 and then a left turn onto Main Street. Also our Yancy Street Comics store will be having a rare Buy 1 Get 1 Free Sale on May the 4th, so it will be a fun day at both locations! Free Comics at one location and a huge sale at the other!
10. Whew!! That was a lot, but should be all for the moment and we will keep updating as we get closer to the 4th. We look forward to seeing all of the new faces and our amazing customers this year at our new property on Main Street for Free Comic Book Day 2024!!
