Free comedy devising workshop open to absolute beginners
Hosted by performer and multidisciplinary artist Anthony Briscoe this workshop will walk you through how to gain the confidence and skills you'll need to write and perform your very own comedy sketch. Comedy is about more than cheap laughs; it's vulnerability, storytelling, and just a little bit of failure.
All participants will be invited to perform their new comedy sketch at the Dare to Create: Oldham Arts Festival on Wednesday 5th August 2026, 7pm at 1853 Studios.
About Anthony Briscoe
Anthony Briscoe is a performance poet and multidisciplinary artist making work that feels like a clown reading the terms and conditions of existence out loud.
Blending absurdist comedy with moments of genuine weight, his spoken word explores meaning, nonsense, and everything awkwardly in between. Armed with a BA (Hons) in Contemporary Theatre from Lancaster University, Anthony delivers bold, energetic performances that entertain, unsettle, and gently question why he made these life choices
