Join us on Thursday, July 9th at 7:00 PM at the Rosenberg Civic Center for our FREE monthly program, "Tracing Texas Through Time: A Journey in Archeology" with Sharon Menegaz.
While archeologists now believe that people have lived in Texas for more than 21,000 years, what defines the different “eras” of Texas archeology? How do archeologists distinguish between the Paleoindian, Archaic, and Late Prehistoric periods, and what do these time periods reveal about the lives of the people who lived here long before written history?
This presentation explores the timeline of Texas archeology through examples of significant sites featured on Texas Beyond History, along with stories and discoveries from Texas Archeological Society (TAS) Field Schools over the past 25 years. Participants will learn how archeologists use artifacts, tools, food remains, and changing technologies to better understand how people adapted to Texas environments across thousands of years.
From the earliest hunter-gatherers who hunted Ice Age animals, to the development of trade networks, pottery, and the bow and arrow, the program will highlight the cultural changes that shaped the history of Texas long before European contact. The presentation will also showcase how modern archeological excavations and volunteer field schools continue to expand our understanding of the past.
