Free Caring Hugs in Santa Monica

Offering free hugs puts a smile on people's faces. In these difficult times, we can let our fellow human beings know we care. (It also happens to be fun!)

WHERE TO MEET US

We'll meet at 2:00pm at the beginning of the Pier at the top of the stairs that lead down to the beach. The spot is close to the entrance of Bubba Gump restaurant. Look for amazing people holding Free Hugs signs and hugging people. That’s us!

TIMING
At 2:15pm, we'll move down the pier giving hugs as we go. We'll be giving free hugs until 3:30pm.

Then for those that want to, we'll enjoy the Pier - maybe go on the Ferris Wheel!

Layers to stay comfy

Walking shoes

Water

Mask (with air quality being a concern, masks are recommended)

Avoid bringing bulky bags to keep your hands free for hugging.

FREE HUGS TIPS
Only give hugs to those that want them. And remember that if a person chooses not to receive a hug, they are doing a great job of taking care of themselves. We can honor that! (And it will be all the sweeter when someone who really wants the experience comes up for a hug. It's very satisfying!)

TRANSPORTATION / PARKING
Check out these tips for making your way to the Pier by car, bus, train, bike or foot! Here's the Big Blue Bus. Here's the Metro.
If you’d like to rideshare, set your destination to 1550 Appian Way to be dropped off by the beach. From this area you can take the stairs or wheel-chair accessible ramps onto the Pier deck. If you’re driving, the paid beach parking lot is at 1550 Appian Way, Santa Monica, CA 90401.

Here are a few more clever parking ideas:

• Civic Center Garage: This Santa Monica parking garage is located just off the 10 West freeway exit, on 4th and Olympic across from City Hall.
• The Metro E Line: if you want a convenient way to access the Pier, try parking at one of the Metro parking garages at an Expo stop in Santa Monica, and hopping on the train. Parking starts at $3 and since there are no overnight penalties, they are a great place to find overnight parking in Santa Monica.
