About the Partnership:
Assistant Professor of Architecture at Kent State University, Kristen Mimms Scavnicky, was awarded the Thomas Schroth Artist Series grant from Kent State University to host visiting artist and designer Adam Nathaniel Furman. During his visit to Kent State, The College of Architecture and Environmental Design will host his public lecture on Monday, March 30 at 5:15pm, followed by a gallery opening and book signing. The exhibition will showcase work created through a semester-long workshop course (January–March), including fifteen identity structures and one gateway structure developed collaboratively with students.
About Adam Nathaniel Furman :
Trained in architecture, Adam’s work critically engages ornament, color, and aesthetics as cultural and political agents within the built environment. His practice spans products, furniture, interiors, and large-scale public works, uniting historical reference with contemporary theory through rigorous material and formal exploration. His research-driven approach has contributed significantly to architectural and design discourse through teaching, curatorial work, and publications, including Queer Spaces: An Atlas of LGBTQIA+ Places and Stories and Revisiting Postmodernism. His work is held in major international museum collections, and in 2024 he was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the Royal Institute of British Architects in recognition of his contributions to British architecture. His art works have previously/currently shown in Carnegie Museum of Art and the Design Museum in London.
