About this Event
As a Texas Ex, March 2nd holds special significance as the day that commemorates the founding of The University of Texas. Established through the Texas Constitution of 1876, the university was envisioned as a “university of the first class,” dedicated to the promotion of literature, the arts, sciences, and more. This day serves as a celebration of the foresight and vision that led to the creation of one of the nation’s leading institutions of higher education.
In 1900, the Ex-Students Association (Texas Exes) adopted a resolution which states: "Whenever two Texas Exes shall meet on March 2, they all shall sit and break bread and pay tribute to the institution that made their education possible."
The Texas Independence Day Celebration & Scholarship Banquet is the Chapter’s major fundraising event of the year. All net proceeds from the event benefit the Chapter's Scholarship Fund which awards academic scholarship to incoming University of Texas Students from Gillespie County.
The event begins at 5:30pm with a silent auction and social, followed at 6:30pm with dinner catered by Vivere Catering, and a program celebrating the founding of The University of Texas.
Tickets to the Texas Independence Day Celebration & Scholarship Banquet are $65 per person. Please RSVP by February 11, 2026.
