BIG NEWS!
The Fred Davies Memorial Race will be held for the second time in Shrewsbury on the 30th of August. There will be heats, with the aim of 6 paddlers getting through to the actual race. Entry to compete in the heats is £25 with the proceeds going to the Shrewsbury Town FC Foundation.
This race is for Shrewsbury coracles, which will be available to use. Please feel free to bring other types of coracle along as the more interest the better. There may be other races and general coracle shenanigans too.
Fred Davies was a dedicated supporter of Shrewsbury Town FC who retrieved lost footballs kicked into the Severn during games at the old Gay Meadow ground - the same stretch of river where this event is to be held, just downstream from the English Bridge. Spectators on bridge, towpath and at Abbey Gardens.
The race involves a football being kicked into the river and the six competitors racing to pick it up. The winner writes their name on the ball, which is then kept at the club until next year's race.
Come one come all! Looking forward to seeing you there.
