Schedule
Tue May 21 2024 at 05:30 pm
UTC-04:00Location
430 Manhattan Road, East Grand Rapids | Grand Rapids, MI
At 5:30 p.m., community members will hear from city officials and project donors including the local nonprofit West Michigan Mountain Biking Alliance and East Grand Rapids Community Foundation, as part of the dedication and ribbon cutting. Residents can also enjoy refreshments and have the opportunity to explore the trails.
Named after former East Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation Director Fred Bunn, the trails were created to provide the community 5 kilometers of natural trails for biking, walking, running and dog walking. The trails were conceptualized during the 2020 Community Parks and Recreation Master Plan to enhance the existing uses of Manhattan Park. The proposed trails then received extensive community input and an ecological assessment before being approved by the City Commission for construction in 2023.
The trails feature a designated technical mountain biking skills area, located within a closed loop separate from the beginner and intermediate trails that welcome hikers, walkers and runners.
The trails were made possible by contributions from WMMBA, who will also maintain the trails, the EGR Community Foundation and individual donors.
