After multiple collaborations (including 10 years as the bassist for Sophie Hunger and currently playing with Stephan Eicher), Simon Gerber returns to his roots—songwriting and Soul music…
With his musical partner of 20 years, gospel singer and musician Sophie Noir Kummer, they form a unique trio, created during a residency at Cully Jazz 2017, and completed by their longtime friend, drummer and sound engineer Claude Kamber.
This trio features two voices; songs are sung together, instruments are exchanged, and their voices blend in a rare alchemy, having shared the stage and various projects since their beginnings. The music shifts between minimal and poignant, intense and electric!
Their repertoire mainly consists of original songs in French or English, as well as rearranged pieces from Simon Gerber’s four French-language albums, and lesser-known Soul and Rhythm & Blues duets.
In January 2018, they released a 5-track EP titled MOVE ON.
Finally, in 2020, they released their first full album, BIKINI TEST SESSIONS. These 10 original songs and 2 covers were recorded live from start to finish—raw and authentic—surrounded by a small audience of friends at the legendary club in La Chaux-de-Fonds. For the occasion, they also invited a few musician friends: Daniel Perrin on the Hammond B3 organ, Alberto Malo on percussion, and Sacha Ruffieux (who handled the recording) on additional guitar for two tracks.
