Are you ready to get back on the water for our Fall-Winter Camping Season? What better way to prepare that to hone up on your paddling skills! Join us for a free kayak skills session sponsored by Region H, of the Florida Paddling Trails association! We will be focusing on the FORWARD STROKE, Draw Strokes, ASSISTED RESCUES and SELF RESCUES! Also, if there is a particular skill you are interested in practicing, then please let us know. We will make every effort to assist you. ACA-Certified Kayaking Instructors will be present, to support the session. This is open to all kayak types and paddlers of all skills levels. Kayaks must have bulkheads. We will be meeting at Virginia Key Beach North Point Park, next to the “lagoon”. The lagoon called Lamar Lake (Jimbo’s Lagoon for the old timers…), is a prime, sheltered location, for paddling skills practice and rescue practice. Bring along a paddle float if you have one. We’ll have extras for you, if you don’t own one, and if you'd like to practice paddle float self-rescues.
I spotted manatees in the lagoon recently, so be aware that there might be some manatees in the lagoon.. Please be respectful of ALL wildlife in the lagoon, and surrounding areas.
Time permitting, you are welcome to join us on an easy paddle to our usual kayak beach, for refreshments and kayaker camaraderie!
Bring your own snacks and drinks.
All participants must wear a PFD and carry a signaling device (whistle), while on the water.
