Join us for our next FPANT Association Meeting as we dive into a critical training topic for the summer: Freeze Protection for Fire Sprinkler Systems. With extreme weather events becoming more frequent, proper freeze protection is essential to ensure systems function as intended when temperatures drop.
This training will cover safety, functionality, and compliance with the 2024 International Fire Code and key NFPA standards: 13, 13R, and 13D. It’s designed for inspectors, fire prevention professionals, and anyone involved in fire sprinkler oversight.

What You’ll Learn:
- Understand the components and operation of freeze protection systems
- Identify common system types (dry systems, heaters, dry pendants)
- Review proper installation and insulation best practices
- Learn how to inspect for safety and code compliance
- Apply structured checklists during real-world inspections
- Discuss cold-weather failure risks and prevention

Presenters:
Mike Rockne – Celina Fire Department
Mike currently serves as an Arson Investigator/Fire Inspector for the Celina Fire Department. Mike has 13 years of experience in the fire service, along with 9 years in Law Enforcement. He holds certifications as a Master Firefighter, Master Inspector, Advanced Investigator, Basic Fire Marshal, Instructor II, and Life Safety Educator. He also holds a Master Peace Officer License and TCOLE Instructor certification. He has a bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech in Kinesiology and a master’s degree from SMU in Conflict Management.

Doug Lichnovsky – McKinney Fire Department
Doug brings over 30 years of experience in the building industry and currently serves as the Senior Fire Inspector for the McKinney Fire Marshal’s Office. A Master Electrician and ICC Master Code Professional with extensive certifications across building, electrical, plumbing, and fire disciplines, Doug is nationally recognized for his technical expertise and leadership. His deep knowledge of life safety systems, code enforcement, and inspection practices. paired with his commitment to education and mentorship, makes him a standout voice in the fire prevention community.
