Anniversaries make ghosts, and as we explore the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America, the Revolutionary War ghosts of North Burial Ground are restless. This special year, the dead return to the land of the living on two summer nights to share their stories about struggles, tragedies, and triumphs of the Revolution. See this live theatrical performance at North Burial Ground! If you love our annual ghost tour, you'll love this program.
Our "ghosts" are young revolutionaries, Freelove Fenner Jenckes and Capt. Sylvanus Jenckes, members of the Sons and Daughters of Liberty whose love story is set against the backdrop of the Revolution. What was it like for a young couple starting their family as their revolutionary ideals turned to the reality of war? What did it mean for women like Freelove, who saw her role as a political actor diminish as she birthed her children, and watched her privateer husband- leave for dangerous voyages?
No tickets are necessary, this is a free program sponsored by the City of Providence Parks Department, the Ely Fund, and Ocean State Media.
We'll gather at 5:00 PM at the Rochambeau Gate (where Rochambeau St. intersects with North Main Street)
