About this Event

PRSS Supervisor Training

Effective supervision is essential to building strong, sustainable peer support programs. This 18-hour PRSS Supervisor Training is designed for individuals who supervise, or are preparing to supervise, Peer Recovery Support Specialists (PRSS).

The training provides practical tools and strategies for supporting peer staff, strengthening the peer role within traditional behavioral health systems, navigating legal and ethical responsibilities, developing the peer workforce, addressing performance and role integrity, and advocating for sustainable peer services.

Rather than treating supervision as simply another management responsibility, this training focuses on what makes peer supervision different, including protecting peer values, supporting authenticity, maintaining appropriate boundaries, creating psychological safety, and helping peer staff grow without losing the unique perspective they bring to their work.

What You'll Learn
  • Foundations of effective peer supervision
  • Legal, ethical, and professional responsibilities
  • Coaching, feedback, and staff development
  • Performance, role integrity, and accountability
  • Navigating complex supervision challenges
  • Leadership, workforce development, and sustainability

Training Format

12 hours of self-paced online learning
Participants complete the online curriculum independently before attending the in-person workshop. The online portion includes educational content, reflection activities, knowledge checks, and practical exercises.

6-hour in-person workshop
The in-person portion focuses on application and skill development through interactive activities, supervision practice, case consultation, role plays, group discussion, and problem-solving exercises.

What to Expect

This is a practical, interactive training. Participants will have opportunities to apply concepts to realistic supervision situations, practice communication and coaching skills, examine complex supervisory challenges, and develop tools they can take back to their workplace.

Participants must complete both portions of the training to receive a certificate of completion.
