Runswick Bay, Saltburn by the Sea, TS13 5, United Kingdom | Whitby, EN
I will take you on a time-travelling journey going back almost 200 million years in the spectacular outdoor classroom of the North York Moors National Park. From Ice Age treasures to Jurassic sea creatures, Runswick Bay provides a unique insight into our planetโs deep past. On this itinerary we will search for ammonites, belemnites and bivalves, along with fossil corals and sea lilies. We will also keep an eye out for reptile bones and Whitby Jet.
The event is ideal for families & beginners, and suitable for younger children and people who are able to walk up to 1 mile on sand. Please bring warm, waterproof clothing, and wear beach-suitable footwear, such as wellies or walking boots. No hammers are required, but please do bring a bucket or small backpack for your favourite finds. A magnifying glass is always handy too.
We will meet outside the Tides beach cafe, 15 minutes before the scheduled start time. There is pay-and-display parking at Bank Bottom car park, near the meeting point, but this can fill up very quickly on busy days. Please add contingency time - 15 minutes - in case of having to park up in the village and walk down to the meeting point.
