Fortress Europe – Hannah Feuerstein

We are proud to present a new exhibition: Fortress Europe by Hannah Feuerstein
Vernissage: Friday 18:00–21:00
Open on Saturday and Sunday 12:00-15:00
––––––––––––––––––––––––
Since 2014, 35.690 people went missing when attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea to reach Europe. Civil rescue organisations are criminalized whilst Europe funds players like the “Libyan Coastguard”, known for intercepting boats, illegal pushbacks to Libya, violence towards refugees and human trafficking.
My current work is based on my grandmother’s refugee story –after the second world war, 80 years ago – and on my anger and pain about the current border politics. This exhibition explores the latter. Slogans as poetry explore the anger and helplessness I feel facing the far right surge we are experiencing in Europe. Metal thorns restricting and dictating the movement within the gallery space act as a physical reminder of our border politics.
