The progressive forró courses for Autumn 2025 are here! 💛✨Welcome to have fun, meet new people and learn forró – a beautiful, playful and versatile Brazilian couple dance (and a music genre), originally from the northeast of Brazil! This spring we have three progressive 10-week forró courses; Fundamentals, Improvers and Intermediate I. New this season: a weekly social dance included for all participants! A fun and much-requested chance to practice and connect!
At Baião Helsinki we wish to spread the joy of forró! Our classes have an emphasis on the Forró Roots style, while still combining with Forró Universitário. One of our main focuses in on increasing dialogue in the dance, making the dance a conversation. Baião Helsinki is a project founded by Johanna Alatalo and Suvi Lukka.
WHICH COURSE TO CHOOSE?
🟠 FORRÓ FUNDAMENTALS (0-1 years of dancing forró)
Want to get started in Forró? In this course, we build the technical and musical foundations essential for dancing forró with comfort, connection, and confidence. You'll learn key movement vocabulary and leading-following principles used across both universitário and roots styles.
Spending multiple seasons in this course is the best way to deepen your foundations and grow your confidence, whether you're building skills or exploring a new role.
🟢 FORRÓ IMPROVERS (1-2 years of dancing forró)
Already completed a beginners course at minimum? In this course the focus shifts more to the roots style, while still combining and mixing the two major styles. We begin exploring the basic roots repertoire, continue strengthening our awareness of the flow of dance and learn to build sequences. We also work with body awareness and more detailed techniques.
Each round of the course brings fresh material and variations, which is why it’s recommended to spend multiple seasons at this level.
🔵 INTERMEDIATE I (2 years or more of dancing forró)
This course is suitable for dancers who already have a solid understanding of the basics of the roots style and have danced forró for at least a few years. Attending the course requires good balance and body awareness.
We will deepen the roots repertoire while still blending different styles. The focus shifts toward interactive dialogue in the dance, encouraging creativity, musical expression, and the development of personal style. Each season offers new challenges to continuously support your growth as a dancer.
