Feminist theorist and filmmaker Trịnh T. Minh-hà’s experimental documentary provocatively addresses the act of remembering to forget the war trauma and looking forward in post-war Vietnam. With image and sound recordings from 1995 and 2012, the film not only brings together two different historical situations, but also different techniques and aesthetics, engaging with Vietnamese folk cultures. The imagery draws inspiration from ancient mythical legends about dragons leading to the creation of the country, and from water as a force evoked in every aspect of Vietnamese culture. The film commemorates the 40th anniversary of the end of the "American war" and the reunification of Vietnam.
