Forest Therapy Walk
About this Event
Join us for a slow, guided walk to pause, engage your senses, and connect with nature.
What is Forest Therapy?
Inspired by Shinrin-yoku, the Japanese practice of “forest bathing,” Forest Therapy invites us to spend unhurried time with nature. Simple, open-ended invitations offer opportunities for curiosity, reflection, and connection with the world around us.
What to expect
This is not a hike. We’ll cover less than a mile on mostly flat terrain, moving slowly with plenty of time to notice our surroundings, sit or stand, and simply be present.
There will also be optional opportunities to share with the group. You’re welcome to adapt or skip any invitation, and there’s no expectation to feel or experience anything in particular. No previous experience is needed.
Rain or shine
The walk will take place rain or shine, unless weather conditions make it unsafe. Please dress for the forecast, with layers and rain protection as needed.
What to bring
- Water and comfortable footwear suitable for the trail.
- Optional: a lightweight chair or stool for sitting, or a yoga mat for sitting or lying on the ground. Bring whatever helps you feel comfortable during pauses along the way.
Your guide
Nate Atkinson is a forest therapy guide in training with ANFT, based in Champaign, Illinois. He hopes to help others discover meaningful connections with nature close to home.
