In this concert we offer three late-Nineteenth Century composers at their best. Saint-Saëns reflects the huge popularity of Japanese style in a comic overture.
We mark the centenary of Gabriel Fauré’s death with his gorgeous 1898 suite for the Maeterlinck play. We finish off our annual visit to Sir James Hawkey Hall with Rimsky-Korsakov’s ever-popular 1888 masterpiece conjuring up the storytelling of the Thousand-and-one-Nights.
