Forest Chanting to the Trees — Sunset at Britannia Beach

6:00–7:30 p.m. a short beautiful sunset one
at the furthest walking / cycling point at Britannia Beach, Ottawa

This is one of our most beloved annual Forest Chanting gatherings -as we sink our toes into the sandy beach and listen to the fluttering beech trees all around the shoreline.
Join us at the height of Britannia Beach for an early September evening of song, sand, sky, and sunset. As summer begins to turn, we gather close to the water to sing to the trees, the shoreline, the wind, and the changing season.
We gather beside Kichi Zibi — the Great River — the Algonquin/Anishinaabemowin name widely used for the Ottawa River. We come with gratitude for the long memory of these waters and with respect for the Anishinābeg Algonquin peoples who have known, travelled, and cared for this river since time immemorial. We hug, we hold hands and we sit close in circle in the sand.
Come breathe in the evening air, and likely greet the beach for one of the last warm evenings of the summer season.
If you are brave, come early for a swim while the September sun is still setting. Then join us on the sand for chanting, singing, and quiet beauty together by the water.
You are welcome to arrive as you are. You do not need to be a singer. You do not need experience. You may stand with us, sit on the sand, or simply listen and take it all in.
Please bring:
a towel or blanket
a lawn chair if you prefer
a water bottle
a flashlight
a warm layer for later in the evening
beach things if you plan to picnic or / and swim
This gathering is simple, seasonal, and full of heart. We come together to mark the edge of summer with our voices, our bodies, and our gratitude for the land and water that hold us.
All are welcome who can come with gentleness, respect, and reverence. No pets please -it gets too complicated with pets.
We may ask for a $donation at registration but it is not mandatory.
