Joonas Siren (b.1983, lives/works in Helsinki, Finland, they/them) has graduated as Master of Fine Arts from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in 2013 and also from the joint-study program Nordic Sound Art co-organized between five different Nordic Art Academies in 2012. They work with multidisciplinary methods, often using sound as an artistic material, but not in a strictly musical sense. The artworks are mainly installations, usually containing computer programmed parts.
Lately, Siren has been interested in the possibilities of video games. Liminal Objects solo exhibition exhibited February 2024 at Sculptor Studio gallery was their first installation, where the visitor could play a game made by Siren.
Siren’s work often combines different media, sound, programming methods and physical objects/installations to form multifaceted works dealing with various political and philosophical topics.
