For this year's Heritage Open Days, join the Ahmed Iqbal Ullah RACE Centre and Education Trust for a special screening of Cup Fever (1965). We’ll be sharing a selection of items from our archive connected to the themes of football and Northern Childhoods.
2026 marks 40 years since the M**der of Ahmed Iqbal Ullah, a young Bangladeshi Mancunian who was fatally harmed in a racist attack at school. At the RACE Centre, as well as remembering what happened to Ahmed and the tireless campaigning of his family and the community, we also remember Ahmed’s life and legacy.
Ahmed was a creative and energetic young person. He enjoyed playing sports, especially football. Ahmed’s love of football has inspired us to host this screening of Cup Fever (1965). The film shares the story of youth football team Barton Utd triumphing against the odds and features candid footage of 1960s Manchester.
As part of the event, we’ll be sharing a selection of items from our archives. Join us for an evening of film, archive exploration and connection.
