Food Startup 101

Food Startup 101 is Kitchen Council’s foundational workshop for aspiring food entrepreneurs who are ready to move from idea to action.

Whether you’re starting a food truck, bakery, catering company, specialty product line, or restaurant concept, this session helps you understand what it actually takes to launch successfully.

Hosted in partnership with Iowa Western SBDC, this free in-person class covers the real-world fundamentals of starting a food business: business structure, licensing and health department requirements, startup costs, funding options, commercial kitchen needs, branding, marketing, and building a plan that can actually work.

We’ll also walk through common mistakes, realistic expectations, and the systems required to build something sustainable—not just exciting.
