Food for Thought: Clocks inside your body
About this Event
What's the session about?
Do you ever wonder, "Why do some of us like to wake up early in the morning, while others enjoy staying up late?"
In the first edition of “Food for Thought”, we will have an interactive session about a system that regulates the timing of events inside our body, termed the circadian clock.
We will be joined by Dr. Laura Kervezee, an assistant professor at Leiden University Medical Center. Laura studies the impact of the circadian timing system on human health and disease. She is on a mission to apply her knowledge of the circadian system to improve health care.
The session will start with a talk from Laura, followed by plenty of time for asking questions, expressing opinions, and free-flowing discussions.
Along with the science, you will be served a range of Indian dishes and curated wines (or non-alcoholic drinks). Of course, we will explore the backstory and flavors of each course, as we love to do it here!
Vibe of the Event
It is an informal science communication session designed for any curious individual. The aim is to make science enjoyable, like food and wine tastings!
No academic background or prior knowledge required. Just come with an open mind, enjoy Indian food, and immerse yourself in the conversation.
About the Host
The session is hosted by Maitreyi, a chef and scientist based in Leiden. Through her initiative, Dialogues with Maitreyi, she brings together her passions for food, science, and culture, offering private multi-course dining experiences that explore the cultural, historical, and biochemical stories behind South Asian cuisine.
With Food for Thought, she extends this concept to bring people together and explore fascinating scientific and philosophical ideas through conversations with experts, all while enjoying delicious flavours.
