Contemporary Embroidered Stories Workshop
· Length of workshop: 4 hours which includes a ½ hour lunch break
· Price: $120 TAC members, $145 non-members Price includes a kit.
Roz Ritter is a contemporary embroidery artist known for piecing together personal stories through a lens of societal challenges, including women’s rights and family dynamics. Influenced by historical pieces like the Bayeux Tapestry and American samplers, her art holds a meditative quality, reflecting on both the past and present.
In this hands-on workshop we will explore and create our stories with the art of simple embroidery stitches utilizing drawing (no drawing experience necessary), photo transfer, text, and the materials she uses to create our personal contemporary samplers. Beginners and experienced embroiderers are welcome.
The workshop will include a slide presentation, a demonstration of Roz’s process including transfer techniques, materials and how you can incorporate stitching into your artwork. Roz will bring a light box, some samples of her work and a copy of her book, Follow the Thread.
The kit includes an 8” embroidery hoop, a piece of 15” x 15” white linen fabric with interface, embroidery thread, needles Roz recommends, water soluble Stabilizer (Solvy) and a water erasable pen.
Roz’s work has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the United States and has been acquired by The Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, CA and The Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, CA.
