Join the New Castle Library Friends for a fascinating talk by Eunice LaFate about Folk Art & Culture, at our Annual Membership Dinner on February 12!Folk art is art produced by self-taught people. Every culture has its share of folk artists, yet art historians often deny folk art its rightful place alongside fine art. Ms. LaFate, a Jamaican born, prize-winning folk artist, addresses this issue and explores the concepts of folk art and culture. Audience members will have the opportunity to create their own folk art!
Ms. LaFate's program is made possible through the generosity of Delaware Humanities and the National Endowment for the Arts.
A light dinner of soup and sandwiches, along with other refreshments, will be served, courtesy of the Friends Board. Additional dishes are welcome - if you'd like to bring something, please reach out to [email protected].
The schedule will be roughly as follows:
- 5:50pm - Doors Open / Check-In begins
- 6:10pm - Announcements (while members get dinner and get settled)
- 6:30pm - ‘Folk Art & Culture’ presentation by Eunice LaFate
- 7:30pm (approx.) - NCLF Annual Business Meeting
- Presentation of 2025 Budget
- 2025 Board Slate Presentation & Membership Vote
- 7:55pm (approx.) - Closing Remarks
This is a member-only event, but we always welcome new Friends if you'd like to join at the door for as little as $15. Brief, annual membership business will be conducted following the talk.
