How will you leave this event?
Feeling connected to yourself and others. Whatever is inside of you will have had movement and breath. If you have never done contact before you will leave with a felt body sense of possibility and new awareness. We will embark on a path of imaginary world building that will allow us to move our bodies and minds in ways that our current reality doesn't allow.
Who is this for?
This is for anyone who is curious about expressive movement. Anyone who has a story to tell with their body. Or who just simply loves to dance and doesn't know where to start.
How will it work?
We will engage in several 45 minute activities with lots of breaks for integration during the afternoon. At five we will move into a jam space where we will co create imaginary worlds together.
What is contact improv?
Contact improv is essentially a free dance form that is based around the possibility of physical contact. As we learn to trust ourselves and each other in closer proximity we can learn to literally physically support each other and uncover new ways of moving that are not possible in solo dance. Contact starts with our connection to the earth. It is our first contact point.
All are welcome in this space regardless of their desire to touch or be touched by others.
How does consent work in contact?
Like many other spaces, consent in contact spaces is an ongoing conversation between people. Jayce, your instructor, also teaches embodied consent and will weave their knowledge of consent into each activity. They believe consent is fluid and ever changing. And will offer you tools to pivot, and navigate in and out of your comfort zones to allow for optimal learning and trust with yourself, and with others.
Who is Jayce?
Jayce is a local dancer and facilitator who thrives in the unknown and mysteries of life. They see dance as a healing modality that offers connection within and without. They are passionate about opening others up to the possibilities of their own artistic expression.
