FLOURISH will work with communities to explore the benefits of our shared Irish and Scottish heritage. A key aim of the FLOURISH (Framing the Legacy of Our Irish and Scottish Heritage) project is to build positive community relations around the connections between Irish language and Ulster Scots language.
This will include three workshops over 18 months looking at the understanding and opinions of languages. These workshops will also include presentations on several areas of interest, for instance placenames of Irish or Ulster Scots origin, the origins of surnames, how Irish and Ulster Scots is evident in the English we speak, and in our music. Workshops will be free of charge.
In addition, workshop participants can attend an optional residential trip to the Irish speaking areas of Donegal, the Scots speaking regions of Antrim or the Scots or Gaelic speaking regions of Scotland (limited spaces available).
This programme will be carried out with community groups across Northern Ireland and in the border regions of Ireland with groups including members of the Protestant, Unionist and Loyalist and Catholic, Nationalist and Republican communities as well as members of newcomer communities.
FLOURISH is a project supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes body. It is being funded through the Building Positive Relations Investment Area of PEACEPLUS. Ulster University is leading the project.
