The City of Pembroke Pines has partnered with Florida Humanities to present a quarterly lecture series inspired by monthly cultural celebrations, aiming to educate, engage, and spark meaningful dialogue within the local community.
Join us on Monday, February 9 from 6-7pm at Commission Chambers to celebrate Back History Month with a talk on The Civil Rights Movement in Florida. In this presentation Dr. J. Michael Butler debunks the myth of “Florida exceptionalism” in relation to the Black freedom struggle and demonstrates how this history remains relevant in modern America for better and worse.
This talk is free and open to the public, no registration needed. Recommended for ages 18+.
