The Fleurieu Biennale Art Prize established in 1998 to raise the profile of the Fleurieu Peninsula. Since then, the landscape prize gained prestige and was the richest landscape prize in Australia. It is no longer a landscape prize, allowing a wider range of artists and artworks to participate.
Over the years, the prize has been known by different names and has been celebrated in different ways - but has always remained a respected and vital part of the cultural heritage of McLaren Vale in the Fleurieu Peninsula.
