Dakota. A given name derived from the name of the indigenous Native American Dakota people. “It means Friend or Ally and it couldn’t have been more fitting for my best friend of almost 13 years.” Brad says. Dakota took his own life in January of 2021.
Suicide is the second leading cause of death for youth and young adults (15-34 years). In Alberta, on average we lose nearly 600 individuals every year.
Soon after Blue Monday, on January 24th, join country-rock duo Flaysher along with special guests Alex Hughes and Julia Vos at the King Eddy in Calgary as they stand together for suicide prevention and mental health.
All proceeds will be going to the Thumbs Up Foundation: Thumbs Up Foundation’s purpose is to improve access to mental health care. Our vision is to establish and connect resources for those patients suffering in all areas of mental health. We want to help improve knowledge around mental health; help to create awareness for the need for systemic change(s) to the current access to care, and educate on the devastating loss that can result from these deficiencies.

About Flaysher:
Based on the last name of two ‘loud and proud’ Albertan brothers, Brad and Ryan, Flaysher is a Canadian country-rock duo. With family roots running 6 generations deep into the Albertan prairies, Flaysher’s high-octane country-rock sound has positioned them as 8x CMAB nominees.
Flaysher surpassed 2 million global streams and built an audience of 324k listeners on Spotify. Their main stage performance at Country Thunder Alberta in 2023, preceding Tim McGraw, highlighted their ability to command large crowds. In 2024, they were featured in the Calgary Stampede Grandstand Show at GMC Stadium, performing for crowds of 20,000 for ten nights in a row.
Their last single Second Wind just hit #2 on Sirius XM’s Top of The Country channel in February of 2025. It was released with Megan Dawson (Country/Pop artist) and produced by CCMA award-nominated producer Dan Swinimer.

About Alex Hughes:
Alex Hughes is a pop-country powerhouse from Calgary, Alberta, blending heartfelt storytelling with irresistible pop hooks. Known for her vibrant energy and captivating live performances, Alex brings a fresh, genre-bending perspective to Canadian country music. Her single “Until This Fire Dies,” produced by award-winner Dan Swinimer, earned her a coveted Song of the Week feature and playlist cover on Apple Music Canada’s Canada’s Country—the platform’s largest country editorial playlist.
With South Asian and Filipino roots, Alex grew up immersed in a rich mix of musical influences, from Bollywood and Hawaiian melodies to hip-hop and R&B, all of which shape her dynamic sound today. She has shared stages with major artists like Brothers Osborne, Ashley McBryde, Josh Ross, and Babyface, and performed at iconic venues including The House of Blues (Sunset Strip), Nashville’s Tootsies, and Calgary Stampede’s Nashville North. A two-time nominee for Horizon Female Artist of the Year at the Country Music Alberta Awards and a Top 12 finalist in Project WILD, Alex Hughes continues to make waves as one of Canada’s most exciting rising stars.
About Julia Vos:
Steeped in the tradition of family-band bluegrass and shaped by modern country’s catchy hooks, Julia Vos is carving out an unmistakable artistic identity in Alberta’s country scene. Hot on the heels of her latest single, “I Only Kiss Cowboys,” she continues to impress audiences with her charm and powerhouse vocal presence.
Akin to artists like Lainey Wilson and Terri Clark, Vos brings an undeniable poignancy to her songwriting and a standout tone that sets her apart. Her music focuses on the stories that matter, while her live show spans festival stages, songwriter rounds, and late-night honky-tonks.
She has opened for Corb Lund, and has shared the stage with Gord Bamford, Paul Brandt, Tebey, and Dan Davidson. A 4× Country Music Alberta Award Nominee, Vos has earned praise for both her songwriting and her on-stage energy. Her performance highlights include Big Valley Jamboree, Country Thunder Alberta, The Calgary Stampede, Westerner Days, and K-Days.
With new releases on the horizon for 2026, Vos continues to build momentum both onstage and online. She has grown a loyal following with 11.9K + Instagram followers, 17K+ TikTok followers, and more than 3 million views across platforms, proof that her authentic voice and Alberta-bred spirit resonate far beyond the prairies.
