Connected to the History Center’s “Food” exhibit, the University of Illinois Library’s Rare Book Department is taking a road trip to DeKalb County! Dive into the rich tapestry of culinary history at our upcoming event, where food, culture, and history intertwine. This program features a fascinating collection of historical cookbooks and recipe manuscripts, including a 17th-century English cookbook and a 1920s Mexican culinary student’s compilation.
Highlights include the Gwendolyn Brooks Recipe Box and the unique 3D “More Slice of Pie” book. Perfect for history buffs, food enthusiasts, and families, this event offers a unique opportunity to connect with the past and understand how food traditions shape our identities and communities.
There will be two opportunities to see this program. The first is at the DeKalb County History Center at 2:00 followed by an encore presentation at the Kirkland Historical Society at 5:00 p.m.
