About this Event

Join us for a quick hour of Flash Fiction and inject some spontaneous creativity into your life!
Stretch your creative muscles in a fun, low-key, no-judgement way.
You don't have to be a writer. You don't even have to aspire to be a writer. All you need is the interest to create something out of nothing.

What to expect:
We will start with a quick ice-breaker to dust off the cobwebs.

Then we will do three rounds of flash fiction.

In each round, I will share a picture prompt.
Everyone has 5 minutes to write down a super short story inspired by the prompt.
After the 5 minutes are up, anyone who wants can share their story aloud.
Note that it is totally okay if you don't want to share.
The short time limit leaves no room for second-guessing yourself or dwelling on what might be good --- you only have time to write!

I'll bring the prompts and the timer.

You bring yourself, something to write with and on (paper, pens, or a computer) and your imagination.

No judgement, quick and fun!
Add some spontaneous creativity to your life!

About the Organizer:

Jennifer is a long-time resident of San Francisco who has lived in various neighborhoods, but found her forever home in Mission Bay 20 years ago.
During the COVID lockdown, Jennifer led over 100 virtual Flash Fiction events via MeetUp, with participants from all over the U.S. (and beyond).
Newly retired after 30+ years in the corporate world, she is now spending time making music, art, and finding more ways to be creative with other people.
Her current mantra is that "it isn't important to be good, it is important simply to try" and she is striving to live that way and encourage others to do so as well.

About Sunset Commons:

Carmen and Steven started Sunset Commons to provide a space to connect and build community through arts and craft activities led by talented local artists. Inspired by a love for creativity and a desire to foster connection in the Sunset District, we envisioned a “third space” where neighbors can gather, unwind, and form meaningful relationships. Our mission is to empower self-expression, boost confidence, and offer an inclusive haven for everyone, from introverts seeking a calm environment to those enjoying health-focused traditional teas. Sunset Commons is not just a business - it’s our way of enriching the community we love and to the city we both grew up in.

*Our events are often photographed and filmed so we can share the fun with our community. If you don’t want to be on camera, no worries—let us know before the event.
