Callbacks will be the following Monday, the 23rd, at the same location and by invitation only. All roles are paid a $250 stipend.
The musical will be developed over a period of months, with tech/dress dates on June 13 14, 17 and 18, and performances June 19-21 and 26-28, all at the Santos Dantin Studio Theater at the Orlando Shakespeare Center. PLEASE DO NOT AUDITION IF YOU CANNOT COMMIT TO ALL OF THESE DATES.
We are casting the following roles:
KAREN: Female-presenting. Alto. F3- C5. Mid 60s, serial small business owner. Has the "southern hospitality gene" but hasn't had enough opportunity to develop it until now. Struggles with self-doubt and loneliness but attempts to keep it hidden.
ANNIE: Female-presenting. Alto. G3-D5. 30s, marketing executive, married to Dave. Type A personality, no-nonsense, professional appearance, somewhat judgmental of the perceived weaknesses of others. Optional: plays guitar.
DAVE: Male-presenting. Tenor. Bb2-G4 30s, software developer, married to Annie. Free spirit, easily distracted and prone to tangents, but softens Annie's edges. Nervous and self-conscious when we first meet him. Really likes ducks.
TINA: Female-presenting. Soprano (classical). Bb3-Bb5 (option up to Db6) 30s, high school math teacher, grounded, married to Chris. Chilli to his Bandit. Overworked and on the edge of burnout. Tina and Chris have two teenagers who aren't characters but figure into the story.
CHRIS: Male-identifying. Baritone (classical). G2-E4 30s, high school phys ed teacher, bit of a goof, married to Tina. Bandit to her Chilli. Coping better than Tina but not necessarily because his mechanisms are better.
POLLY: Any gender/any age. Mezzo or baritone, can be adjusted. For act 1, she’s the voice of the Polly Digital Assistant; for act 2, she appears as a robed figure from antiquity who serves as underworld guide with a sometimes weary game show host flair.
Please sign up for an audition slot. Prepare 32 bars of a comedic musical theatre song and be prepared to read sides from the show. You can bring sheet music or a recording of your song.
If you are unable to audition on the 16th, you may upload a video audition; we will contact you if we want you to come to callbacks on the 23rd. Keep in mind, only performers who are available to attend the callback on March 23rd in person will be considered for casting.
Playwrights’ Round Table is committed to diversity and inclusion. All races, ethnicities and gender identities are welcome to audition.
