Flamenco Workshop and Performance
About this Event
Performance
Experience the fire, rhythm, and soul of traditional flamenco in an intimate 90-minute performance by Patricia Vasconcellos, founder of London’s Flamenco del Sur. A classically trained pianist and dancer with two decades of study in flamenco and Spanish dance, Patricia brings authentic palos—from soulful soleá to fiery bulerías—to life through intricate footwork, expressive castanets, and the dramatic sweep of the Bata de Cola. Backed by live musicians, her performance honours the deep emotional roots of flamenco while showcasing original choreography shaped by her unique journey from Brazil to Canada.
This is flamenco as it was meant to be felt: raw, passionate, and deeply human. Patricia’s artistry invites you into a world where joy, sorrow, and resilience intertwine in every step and strum. Whether you’re new to flamenco or a longtime admirer, this evening promises an unforgettable immersion into one of the world’s most powerful dance traditions—right here in London, Ontario.
Workshop
Join Patricia before the performance at 6:30 pm on Friday September 25, 2025 for an immersive 60 minute introduction to the art of flamenco, designed for curious beginners and dance lovers of all backgrounds. In this hands-on workshop, Patricia will guide participants through the foundational elements of flamenco: posture and presence, arm movements (braceo), basic footwork (zapateado), hand clapping (palmas), and an introduction to flamenco rhythm (compás).
You’ll learn a short, accessible choreography in a traditional palo (such as tangos or bulerías), gaining a feel for the music, emotion, and cultural roots of this centuries-old Andalusian art form. Patricia’s teaching style blends her classical piano training, two decades of flamenco study, and experience leading workshops for musicians, dancers, and community groups, creating a supportive and energizing environment for first-timers and those with some dance background alike.
This workshop is the perfect way to deepen your connection to the evening’s performance and experience flamenco from the inside out. Comfortable clothing and flat, sturdy shoes are recommended; flamenco shoes are welcome but not required. Spaces are limited to ensure individual attention—advance registration is encouraged.
