Flamenco Foundations - Part Two
A summer spotlight on flamenco technique with Magdalena Mannion - two linked Saturday sessions in south Manchester, videos and study materials provided.
Saturday 18 July at Chorlton High School and Saturday 15 August at EP Dance Studios
11-12.30 Beginner / Improver level warm-up routines, practise approach and sequences, building up turns, technical tips
12.45-13.45 All levels – fan technique, manton technique
14.00-15.30 Intermediate level body technique, remates in 4 and 12, breaking down components that can be used in any palo.

Videos and reference tracks will be available via Zoom after each class for personal practise. The videos will also be available for anybody who couldn’t make it.
Magdalena is a flamenco dance artist based between London and Madrid. She works with both traditional and contemporary forms of flamenco. She trained in flamenco at Amor de Dios, Madrid, for 5 years with teachers Belén Fernández, Alfonso Losa and María Juncal. Magdalena went on to study a Dance Pedagogy degree at Conservatorio Superior de Danza María de Ávila specialising in professional flamenco teaching & holds a MA in Flamencology from ESMUC, Barcelona. She also holds an HE diploma in contemporary dance from Northern School of Contemporary Dance and studied for 10 months on the International Student Programme at Merce Cunningham Studio, New York.
Between 2013-2020 Magdalena was a regular dancer and soloist at some of Madrid’s top tablaos, including Corral de la Morería, Café de Chinitas and Casa Patas, among others. She has co-directed Luz & Mannion Dance (formerly Dotdotdot Dance) alongside Noemí Luz since 2014. Together they have choreographed and produced numerous full length works and collaborative projects www.luzmanniondance.com. She is a company dancer for Compañía Rafaela Carrasco (Nacida Sombra 2017- 2022, Nocturna (Press Prize Festival de Jerez) 2022 - present) and has also worked for companies such as Compañía Miguel Angel Espino (2015) Riverdance (2021 - 2022), Compañía Adriana Bilbao (Zarra 2022 - present ), Sanchez & Rigg (Project Unspoken 2023) and Keynote Opera (Bronte - 2023) leading her to perform on different occasions at festivals such as Suma Flamenca Madrid, Festival de Jerez, International Flamenco Festival Morocco, Bienal de Sevilla & Festival Fiesta la Bulería Jerez, under the direction of Manuel Liñán.
Teaching is a big part of Magdalena’s work. She is passionate about bringing out the artistry and personality in her students as well as understanding the history and context of flamenco.
