Flamenco Bulerías, with guest artist Andrés Peña (Lancaster)
About this Event
This progressive workshop is designed to develop confidence and enjoyment of bulerías from the heart of Jerez. You will dive into the exhilarating world of the traditional flamenco fiesta, learning how dancers step into the centre to improvise and enjoy the music in a supportive party atmosphere.
This is a three week course and the ticket price covers all three classes - six hours of tuition with training materials and video links for practise.
Weeks 1 & 2: Foundations with Sarah Chambers
Friday 28 August and Friday 4 September, 7-9pm
Your first two sessions are led by Sarah Chambers, an experienced Manchester-based music and dance teacher. As a university music graduate who has spent five years studying the form of Bulerías, Sarah will help you feel comfortable with the compás (rhythm), traditional arm movements, and basic footwork in a relaxed, supportive environment. You will build up a sequence of steps that can be used in choreography or in an improvised fin de fiesta.
Week 3: Finale with Andrés Peña
Friday 11 September, 7-9pm
Your final session is a masterclass led by Jerez-born flamenco dancer Andrés Peña. As the co-director of the prestigious Ballet Flamenco de Cádiz and dance academy in Cádiz, Andrés is a globally sought-after educator who leads workshops worldwide. He is celebrated for a warm, accessible teaching style that perfectly guides beginners. Andrés will sing the traditional cante and demonstrate how to connect the vocal lines with the steps you have learned. You will learn how to listen to the song, pick up his infectious energy, and find your own confidence in the bulerías rhythm.
