Flamenco Arts International (FAI) makes its Southern California debut with Songs from a Sinking Ship, an acclaimed contemporary flamenco production that blends myth, movement, live music, and immersive design. Set aboard a doomed vessel, the story follows a ship’s crew after a siren’s warning sparks a supernatural battle between ego and redemption, told through the raw intensity of flamenco.
Directed by José Maldonado, the production features world-renowned flamenco artists Juan José Amador, Eugenio Iglesias, Carlos Menchaca, Teresa Hernández, Reyes Martín, Marina Elana, and legendary performer El Torombo. This iteration includes striking projection design by David Murakami, whose work has been praised by the San Francisco Chronicle and the New York Times.
Following a work-in-progress showing in San Francisco, Songs from a Sinking Ship continues to evolve ahead of its world premiere in May 2026.
