Fix & Learn workshop: Small Appliances & Fabric Repair

Join us for a pilot OOS Fix & Learn workshop at the Firehall, a monthly hands-on community repair and learning event where neighbours, local businesses, and volunteer fixers come together to share practical skills, exchange knowledge, solve problems, and help give everyday items a second life.
This free pilot workshop will focus on:
- Small appliance repairs such as lamps, toasters, vacuums, kitchen appliances, and similar household items
- Fabric repair stations for mending, patching, simple sewing repairs, buttons, and basic clothing alterations
Participants are encouraged to take part in the repair process, ask questions, and learn basic troubleshooting and repair skills in a welcoming community setting. OOS Fix & Learn is not a professional repair shop or drop-off service.
The goal is to create a community learning experience focused on repair, reuse, sustainability, practical skill-sharing, and stronger local connections.
To help our volunteer fixers prepare with the right tools and expertise, advance registration is encouraged.
Notes: Together, we are testing and building a community-based repair network that helps reduce waste, strengthen neighbourhood connections, share local knowledge, and keep usable items out of landfills — one repair at a time.
1. Event Registration If you are already an OSCA member, simply select your name when registering. If you are not yet registered, OSCA requires basic contact information for emergency purposes and to keep participants informed about future community events and workshops. If you experience any issues registering, assistance is available by phone at 613-695-6790 or in person at the front desk at 260 Sunnyside Avenue.
2. Repair Information To help our volunteer fixers prepare, please provide details about the item you are bringing and describe the issue as clearly as possible. For electronic devices, including the make and model number is especially helpful. You will receive a form to complete following registration.
