Half Rotten Goddess is at times dark, moody, brooding, and hypnotic. At others, catchy, energetic, noisy, and mosh-inducing. Songwriter and guitarist Micah Foley derives structural composition from classical composers Béla Bartók and Frėdėric Chopin. He takes textural and melodic inspiration from The Pixies, Hickey, Rudimentary Peni, and A Minor Forest. Drummer Max Pleaner drives the sound with a spastic, expressive-yet-crisp style influenced by Mars Volta, Hella, electropunk, and prog metal. Bassist Cris Portillo is an amalgamation of influences wrapped up in a punk rock tortilla, blending everything from classic rock to reggae. He finds inspiration from the steady rhythm of the Tennessee Two and intricate movements of Cliff Burton, always adapting to the flow of the currents. Vocalist Lauren Mae follows the eclectic genre-bending in suit. She moves fluidly between tender crooning, haunting drone, and furious, sassy anthems filled with gutsy innuendos.
