Let the loyal Flanigan Family (Cristie and her kids) from way back introduce this segment. The Flanigans showed up as volunteers for many events at the Garden. Cristie is very community-minded and served our PTA at Prisk for years. Her daughter acted as "greeter" at a couple of our Open House Events in spring. We're having our first work party at Prisk Native Garden on Sunday, October 19, from ten o'clock on. If we get a good turnout and we trim lots of brush and get it bagged up quickly, we may quit as soon as eleven o'clock or so. I've seen it before.
Most of the worst heat of this season should be gone by then, but you never know. A heat wave would cancel, probably, but we'll play that by ear. But in the meantime, if we're on, wear a hat, bring water, and your own garden tools if you got 'em. We don't have lots of pruners these days (I might have a little more by then) so bring whatever you have. I'm going to sharpen a lot of them!
So, heads up, this is my first notice. I'll bug you once in a while till that Sunday arrives. Some people who signed up for Wild for Schools as volunteers at the Long Beach Gives Expo will get a call. You can learn about native plants as you (and they) work.--Mike
