About this Event
February Wine School: Exploring Terre Nere + Mount Etna
This month at Wine School, we’re diving into the volcanic magic of Tenuta delle Terre Nere, one of Sicily’s most influential and respected wine estates. Widely credited with putting Mt. Etna on the global fine-wine map, Terre Nere farms some of the region’s oldest and most exceptional vineyards—many between 50 and 100+ years old—on the cooler northern slopes of Etna at 600–1,000 meters above sea level.
Etna is one of Italy’s most thrilling up-and-coming wine regions, shaped by centuries of lava flows that left behind incredibly complex, mineral-rich volcanic soils. Terre Nere leans fully into this geology, crafting deeply terroir-driven wines from a mosaic of historic contrade, each with its own soil profile and microclimate. Their crus—like Calderara Sottana, San Lorenzo, Guardiola, and Moganazzi—are vinified separately to highlight their distinct personalities.
We’ll be tasting through what the estate is best known for: elegant, high-altitude expressions of Nerello Mascalese. Think bright acidity, smoky minerality, precision, and a lifted structure often compared to Burgundy or Piedmont—yet unmistakably Sicilian.
If you’re curious about volcanic wines, fascinated by Etna, or just want to experience some of the most exciting bottles coming out of Italy today, this is one you won’t want to miss.
Join us for an evening of learning, sipping, and exploring the wines of Terre Nere.
Seats are limited — grab your spot at Wine School.
