Two shows: 7PM and 8PM, stay for both!First Night Northampton welcomes internationally acclaimed archguitarist Peter Blanchette for a special New Year’s Eve program, “Peter Blanchette: Archguitar and Friends,” featuring renowned Québecois guitarist and singer Yann Falquet.
A longtime First Night favorite, Blanchette brings his signature 11-string archguitar to his annual program that blends refinement, innovation, and irresistible energy. Known for his expressive interpretations of Bach, Renaissance and Celtic music, as well as contemporary compositions, Blanchette creates a sound world that is intimate, powerful, and unmistakably his own.
This year he is joined by Yann Falquet, a celebrated figure in Québec’s vibrant folk scene and a member of the award-winning trio Genticorum. Falquet’s warm vocals, rhythmic guitar work, and deep repertoire of French-Canadian traditional music—along with material from his recent solo album Les Secrets du Ciel—add a sparkling new dimension to Blanchette’s sonic palette. Together, they will offer an uplifting, eclectic mix of early music, original compositions, and traditional Québecois songs.
